A grid-connected solar system is a great way to do your part for the environment. Generating power on your roof will make you far more conscious of the power you are using, which can only help remind you to turn off that extra light. Not to mention that producing your own power will reduce your electricity bill! In addition this system will allow you to have backup power available when power outages occur.
The new Xantrex XW inverters have revolutionized the industry with new features such as 240VAC power standard without the addition of extra transformers, unmatched surge load rating, largest battery charging capacity, and two AC inputs for charging from the grid and a backup generator for extended power outages.
The power distribution panel (PDP) needs to be built onsite. Simply hang it on the wall and connect the inverter. All the required cables are included and the system is designed to be installed by a single person. We recommend having an electrician make the connections. This makes installation a snap and drastically reduces the amount of wiring needed to bring power to your home.
These systems are fairly new in Canada and you will have to get in touch with your local utility to find out if they will allow you to interconnect and what they would like to see in the way of protection and approvals. BC Hydro is fully setup to handle these systems.
